Honestly not my favourite WoF book in the series。 It did answer most of the questions that lingered from book 13, the start just failed to engage me like most of the WoF books did from the beginning。 Let’s just say I’m looking forward to book 15 because I think it’ll be better (as in, more development will happen)。

Fantabulous。 Very creative, and all of the characters are very engaging。 I love magic and dragons, and I was unable to put the book down, as I never am able to while reading a Wings of Fire book。 I went into this preparing to feel uncomfortable, since whiney princess (queen) characters tend to be annoying, but it was written in such a way that it was a joy to read :3

In love the gift of Vision Snowfall had received and the last few chapters set up the story for book 15。 The words in the prophecy are explained and I am at home。 I also love the bit with Jerboa in the italic font with the animus candle。 Snowfall (in my opinion) was selfish。 But when Lynx helped her realise her mistakes, she came through as the best queen of the icewings ever!( like she wanted)

This series is so important to me and is such a big part of who I am as a person?? That statement sounds dramatic and like I am overexaggerating but it is true! I want to start off this review by saying that this book was well worth the wait。 The Wings of Fire fandom was forced to wait an extra year for this little gem due to a global pandemic that struck the world out of nowhere。 And I think that wait was well worth it。 This is by far one of my favorite books in the series so far, Sutherland truly outdid herself with this one。 Now if you don't want spoilers I suggest you stop reading this review here。I love Snowfall as a character。 I have to admit that I want to start off this review by saying that this book was well worth the wait。 The Wings of Fire fandom was forced to wait an extra year for this little gem due to a global pandemic that struck the world out of nowhere。 And I think that wait was well worth it。 This is by far one of my favorite books in the series so far, Sutherland truly outdid herself with this one。 Now if you don't want spoilers I suggest you stop reading this review here。I love Snowfall as a character。 I have to admit that I wasn't looking forward to reading this review because the excerpt we got last year painted her to be extremely annoying。 But I am happy to admit that I was wrong about Queen Snowfall。 She ended up being a fascinating character; she's a hurt teenager who lost her mother due to a plague, was thrown into the seat of power with little warning, her sister vanishes out of nowhere, she ends up putting on a brainwashing crown, and has the responsibility of healing her war ravaged kingdom。 Snowfall starts off this book with no one to trust, buried beneath impossible task after impossible task and then has to help an entire continent of immigrant dragons。 And our girl perseveres。 She goes through some pretty great character development throughout the course of this story。 I found the plot point about her not knowing whether or not her mother believed she's be a good ruler to be so relatable。 She doubts herself so much and isn't about to go to anyone except Lynx with those doubts。 I just love our girl so much and I ship her with Lynx just saying。But what I loved the most about this book was the dark turn Sutherland took with animus magic。 Before I read this book I wanted animus magic to come back so badly, but now that I've read this book I am glad its gone。 Jerboa the 3rds story brings to light all the terrible things that animus magic has done in the past。 In the end I believe that there have been more bad things done with the magic than the good。 Animus magic is responsible for Foeslayer being imprisoned in ice for thousands of years, Arctic disemboweling himself, Albatross committing mass murder, Princess Orca murdering her unborn sisters, skywing dragonets born with magic being slaughtered as children, and Jerboa the first twisting her daughters mind beyond recognition, and many more atrocities I forgot to mention。 Jerboa the first was able to change her daughter from adult to child whenever she wanted, change any pieces of her personality when she wanted to, erase her memories and keep her obedient, and enslaving who knows how many dragons over eleven centuries。 What was done to Jerboa the 3rd is some of the darkest content I have read in the Wings of Fire books, it genuinely unsettled me and even now, hours after finishing the book, haunts me。 Animus magic has been used to kill, torture, and erase the lives of countless innocents who didn't deserve it。Now that it's gone Pyrrhia is safe from what animus magic can do。 No, Tamarin and Starflight will never be healed, but now no dragon will ever have to go through what Jerboa the 3rd had to go through, Pyrrhia is better off without magic。 This book turned dark out of nowhere and I love it。 No there isn't a ton of action, but the development that Snowfall goes through is better than any fight scene。 Icewing culture is truly fascinating, and now that there is no wall and no silly wall of rankings icewings will finally have the opportunity to heal emotionally and mentally and finally learn to be happy。 I am so glad I waited for this book because it was truly phenomenal! Book 13 and Dragonslayer were huge disappointments for me and honestly made me hesitant to even try to continue reading arc 4。 After reading them I began to doubt if Wings of Fire would be able to recover from this rut or not。 Thankfully The Dangerous Gift alleviated all of my fears。 I am looking forward to how this arc is going to conclude! To be honest this cliffhanger is better than the Talons of Power cliffhanger。 I have no doubt that book 15 is going t be a finale that will shock us all。 Every wings of fire fan needs to read this book, trust me it won't disappoint you。 。。。more

One of the best books in the series! I like how it includes other characters that readers may have forgotten about (like Wren, Sky, Winter, Lynx, Snowfall, Tau, etc。), and how it really flows with the current events of Pantala and Pyrrhia at the same time。 It's really deep and all dragon fans should read this book at least once in their lives。 I must've read it like five or ten times! After numerous delays, The Dangerous Gift was finally released! I was unsure whether or not I'd enjoy this book before starting it (Snowfall as the POV, and the publication date being pushed back so many times didn't seem too promising to me) but I really enjoyed it! Here's my spoiler-free review c:When we're first introduced to Snowfall, she's paranoid about being the perfect queen。 She's highly suspicious towards the other tribes and even some of her own subjects。 But once figuring out that she's extremely stressed and sleep-deprived and scared out of her mind, I found Snowfall to actually be a sympathetic character。 And obviously there was some sort of character arc ahead of her。Lynx is such a great character too! Her unconditional support of Snowfall is so sweet, and how she knows how to actually help Snowfall and give her what she really needs。 Their dynamic throughout the book is so cute - reminded me a bit of Winter and Qibli, but different in their own adorable way。 Snowfall and Lynx's friendship was definitely one of my favorite parts of this book。We learn more about Jerboa's past too。 Without getting into spoiler territory, I'll just say I found her past to be 。。。 unsettling。This book definitely felt more character-centric than plot-centric, but that's not to say there aren't any important developments towards the overarching plot of the arc。 I was a bit surprised by this though, since judging by the trends of the fourth books of previous arcs, they tend to have A LOT going on in the arc's plot and end on a major cliffhanger (in The Dark Secret, we learn all about the NightWings and the truth about the Dragonet Prophecy, and in Talons of Power, Darkstalker becomes absolutely overpowered and takes away Turtle's magic。 Come to think of it actually, The Poison Jungle seems to have fit this role in the arc。)。 Tui T。 Sutherland is EXCELLENT with her characters though, so a character-centric book is still very enjoyable! Looking forward to book #15! 。。。more

!barracuda’s review for Wings of Fire - Book 14 - The Dangerous Gift - 5 stars(Spoilers ahead, read at your own risk) - kind of a long read, sit back with some tea for this To start, I think this book was drastically better than the previous two installments of the series。 It was PACKED with information the other books never told us, as well as interesting takes and ties between characters only Snowfall would notice because of her idealist perfection theory for her tribe。 Speaking of snowfall, !barracuda’s review for Wings of Fire - Book 14 - The Dangerous Gift - 5 stars(Spoilers ahead, read at your own risk) - kind of a long read, sit back with some tea for this To start, I think this book was drastically better than the previous two installments of the series。 It was PACKED with information the other books never told us, as well as interesting takes and ties between characters only Snowfall would notice because of her idealist perfection theory for her tribe。 Speaking of snowfall, her character development is a little cliche, ”have problems, find magic things, magic things suddenly fix problems, self - realization, etc’ BUT, every aspect of the book I read over multiple times to glean as much information as possible。 Bumblebee has a total of 4 lines, but even if you haven't read any others of the third arc you still get a very clear picture of her personality。 Most characters in this book follow basically the same path, being introduced to the reader like you've never met them before, which goes to say as neither has Snowfall。 Either way, the presenting of details is really great and is one of the shining points of this installment。 Little details, like a background character's lines, all make sense。 I especially loved Sky's introduction, and the way he interacted with the other characters noticeably improved even over these few lines。 Wren, as well, was very well done and from a completely different perspective than in Dragonslayer。 I think a big reason Dragonslayer came out before TDG is because Wren was in it and it would throw some people OFF if this popped out of the blue like this。 Her side storyline was 100% needed。 The moral lessons learned and development of character and reason in Snowfall is some of the best I've read in a novel in a long time。 It takes you with it the whole way and never gets too far ahead of the reader that you don't understand what's going on。 The path she takes to become a better person and queen overall is great。 Definitely go back and read this one again, and you'll catch things you might not have noticed the first time around。 The team of representatives going to Pantala, to sort things out, was a far better decision by Tui than to send an army and have to come up with something to back that and make it make sense。 Also, however cliche, the relationship between Snowfall and Lynx was very subtly brought along but strengthened as it went。 Also, the way she treated the Pantalan dragons in Part III was interesting to see as well。 As a last note, the Abyss was mentioned a total of 5 or 6 times, maybe some more information or context on that would have been great to see。 This is really the only qualm I have with this entire novel, otherwise, GREAT JOB Tui! Overall, as a tl;dr, this book was AMAZING, and i HIGHLY RECOMMEND anyone who has the chance to pick it up and read it over。 The storyline and characters made so much more sense than the past two or so, and it's a very worthy read。 Shameless server plug time HAHA!Catch me on Discord at barracuda#9099 for the OFFICIAL Wings of Fire Wiki Discord server invite as well as all kinds of other takes, theories, and artwork by some amazing people on the server。 。。。more
